Poligrip® Denture Cream

Some denture cream wearers have made claims that their use of Poligrip® denture cream caused them severe side effects such as neuropathy, anemia and neurological damage. The news about Poligrip® is of interest to all users of denture creams, because the side effects related to Poligrip® have also been linked to another denture cream used by millions of people — Fixodent®.

Poligrip® is manufactured and distributed by the giant multinational corporation GlaxoSmithKline, or GSK. In February 2010, GSK announced that it would stop making and distributing Poligrip® until it had removed zinc from all three Poligrip® products. The company is now marketing Poligrip® as zinc free.

Our denture cream lawyers are available to review potential claims on behalf of people who believe they've been harmed by Poligrip® denture cream before the company removed zinc from its Poligrip® products. To find out more information, contact us for a free review of your case.

Poligrip® Side Effects

The most serious Poligrip® side effects are related to zinc toxicity (abnormally and dangerously high levels of zinc, a metal element, in the blood). Zinc was an ingredient in Poligrip® and Super Poligrip® (a stronger adhesive) starting in the late 1990s. Although the human body needs zinc for many crucial functions, too much zinc is very problematic; it can even be fatal.

When zinc is present in a product such as denture cream, the zinc can be absorbed into the body at a rate that is too fast for the body to process it. Poligrip® side effects due to zinc build-up can result in the following symptoms:

  • yellowing of the whites of the eyes
  • weakness and numbness in extremities
  • vomiting
  • urine retention
  • tingling, burning sensations in extremities
  • strange tactile sensations
  • shaking, seizures, tremors
  • rashes
  • pain that isn't explainable
  • numbness in extremities
  • nausea
  • low blood pressure
  • loss of smell
  • liver disorders
  • joint pain
  • jaundice
  • fever
  • diarrhea
  • cramps
  • balance/coordination problems
  • anemia
